Timo Weiland Spring/Summer 2015-Presenting its spring/summer 2015 collection during New York Fashion Week, Timo Weiland offered up a youthful collection with relaxed silhouettes and core staples. Reenergized with a cool blue color palette and a playful use of stripes, sporty menswear essentials were a welcomed vision. Striped trousers, shirts and shorts provided a great graphic contrast to minimally designed separates that gravitated towards accessible neutrals. A touch of green provided a nice light air with joggers and jackets repurposed for more utilitarian results. Jack Spade Spring/Summer 2015-Jack Spade design director Todd Magill explores the nuances of color for spring 2015. Observing the way color transforms garments, whether it’s informing a sophisticated attitude or delivering a modest understatement, Magill approaches the collection similar to the work of minimalist painter Josef Albers. Working with color and its relationship to from one to the next or a pattern to its frame, Albers cleverly interweaved colors. The wardrobe of the Jack Spade man wisely mimics this idea and achieves a great mix of sport and classic American sportswear. Magill explains, “I see a lot of guys on the street mixing their sport gear with their work clothes. Ultimately, the collection is about ‘urban utility’ so you can look good in transitional moments, like when you are in between work and running to or from the gym and then out to meet friends.” Extending the theme of the man on the go, artist Ian Hundley contributes a navy grid print to the lineup for a special capsule selection of bags and apparel inspired by the streets of New York City. Neiman Marcus Heads to the Big Apple-According to WWD, luxury retailer Neiman Marcus has finally set its sights on New York City. Neiman Marcus will be opening its first store in Manhattan in Hudson Yards. Slated for a 2018 opening, Neiman Marcus president and chief executive offers explains that “Demographics show that the growth and population on the west side and south west side of the city is growing much faster than other parts of the city. Soviet Summer-Designer Lucio Castro looks to his childhood as the inspiration behind his spring/summer 2015 collection. Created with summertime nostalgia and a romanticized vision of freedom of youth, Castro mixes in Soviet summer iconography from the 1970s and 80s. The beaches of Odessa and Sopot come to mind as relaxed boxy fits are used for a series of graphic t-shirts, oversize knits, printed drawstring waistband shorts and other summer pleasantries.
