More Than Just a Pretty Face–White Collar actor Matt Bomer covers the May issue of Details promoting his new HBO project The Normal Heart. Directed by Ryan Murphy, the adaption tells the story of a gay man, dying of AIDS when little was known of the epidemic. Bomer shares with Details that he initially read the play when he was in high school, recalling “At that time, I was clueless and obviously in a different place in relation to my sexuality. GQ May Issue–Funny man Louis C.K. lands the cover story for GQ’s May issue. Photographed by Peggy Sirota, C.K. talks about growing up and hanging out with black kids at a predominately white school. C.K. confesses “It was awkward and scary, but I made a lot of black friends, and that was the only way to do it. It had to be uncomfortable. It was actually racist, 'cause I was sitting down with these kids only because they were black. Sometimes discomfort is the only way through.” On his own kids, the comedian shares, “They do surprise you. When my older daughter was about 8, I showed her the routine where I get explosively angry because she sucks at hide-and-seek. She thought it was hilarious. My girls and I make a lot of dark jokes together. In the upcoming season [of Louie], there's a line from a conversation I had with my older girl. She was saying how whenever she sees a three-legged dog, it lifts her spirits, because three-legged dogs are wonderfully unaware that they have a malady. They just walk around, and they don't give a shit. And I said, 'You know, honey, they are lucky. But do you know the only thing luckier than a three-legged dog? A four-legged dog.' Oak Tokyo–Purchased by American Apparel last summer, Oak, originally based out of Brooklyn has had quite the period of expansion. Opening its first stores outside New York, Paris and Los Angeles were the first offshoots. With sights on a second Los Angeles location, particularly Beverly Boulevard, Oak now turns its attention to a Tokyo store to be located at 1-23-25 3F Shibuya. Oak co-founder Louis Terline explains “OAK is a New York brand, started in Brooklyn. We will always be New Yorkers but as New Yorkers we love to travel and meet new people, learn new things and new ways to do things – that’s why we’re so excited to be able to open up shop in fashion capitols like these.”
